Welcome Jock! Yes that switch might be virtually indestructible!
I think they were used in "shelter" system containers like this:

what puzzles me is the fact that, if the switch was used in those "field containers" it doesn't (seem to) have some kind of support flange or the like

Good suggestions.
So since the topics of QRP and SWLing are fairly different, I decided that having separate discussions made sense in that it would be easier for users to control their new post notifications. Plus, it was great to finally put QRPer.NET and SWLing.NET to use!
