Re: What is the best indoor antenna for SWLing?
ok... but you can still use the old "tape loop"; pick some wire, form a loop on the inside (glass) of a window... I've done that with the reel-up antenna that came with my Tecsun PL-880, but it didn't work as well as The Square. I've yet to try an active antenna. What's your opinion of th...

Re: The cardioid loop
Thanks for that! This is absolutely something I want to play with, it's easy enough. Couldn't you have posted that before I bought this expensive phasing unit to make experiments with the original ADF antenna principle (loop + sense antenna) at the dike? :D I'm sorry !! Truth is ... that I found th...

Re: Malachit SDR (CHN clone) + Sony AN-LP1 ampl. loop
Like that? :) LOL !!! Well, yes, that may work, but I was thinking at a vertical support with an horizontal bar nailed/screwed and the wire running around in a diamond loop shape (That's a YouLoop with a LANA-HF, temporarily mounted on a boom outside for a test. That's all plastic cable duct profil...

Re: The cardioid loop
Ok, got a bit of time and "massaged" the original NEC model a bit, the resulting model is here CM Cardioid loop design by Chris Moulding G4HYG based on original C & S CM loop array design from 1982. CM Loop size (side), height and resistor value can be adjusted in the Editor. CM This v...

Re: Malachit SDR (CHN clone) + Sony AN-LP1 ampl. loop
Thank you, Andrew, I´m afraid I´m a little "mechanically challenged" but I´m going to try. Some months ago I tried (following the good guide posted at swling) to make an own Youloop but I found a random wire half in- and half outdoors worked even better. I´m going to use its parts to see ...

Re: The cardioid loop
That's a pretty interesting design, thanks for the heads up! I wonder if and how this principle could be applied to big loops (because I find SMLs tend to lack a lot above 10 MHz)? well, the NEC model (which I used for tests) was related to the bigger loop, optimized for 160m and down, and that ver...

Re: The cardioid loop
Ok, being curious decided to download the NEC model file from the CCW page and ran it, found that the impedance of the antenna in the range between 1KHz and 10MHz varies between 600Ohm and 1KOhm, so I ran a sweep setting the feeder impedance to 800Ohm that is feeding the antenna through a 16:1 BalUn...

The cardioid loop
Here's an interesting antenna design from "Cross Country Wireless" http://www.crosscountrywireless.net/cardioid_loop_antenna.htm while I didn't (yet) build/test it, the idea is quite interesting and it's basically the same which was used in a past for radiogoniometers, in that case they us...

Re: selecting a new receiver
If you're looking for a receiver, how about an SDRplay RSPdx? IMO, in terms of value for money, you can't get much better. An SDR such as this would leave lots of monetary wiggle room to get a decent antenna. Well, a (GOOD!) SDR unit may fit the bill, sure, but then there will be a learning curve w...

Re: selecting a new receiver
if the JRC is serving you well... why replace it ?
as for the antenna, if you'll have a bit of garden, check this one

the HOA folks won't even SEE it
