Re: A simple preamp and preselector

Thanks for posting this. I am going to try it without the varactor and use a single turn loop instead of the network and see what kind of silly active loop I come up with. I will tune with a variable capacitor across the loop. I will let you know how it works! Removing the tuned stage makes very li...

Re: The cardioid loop

Ok, had some time in my hand and decided to create a better model of the "cardioid loop" and run some simulation to check what to expect, after fiddling with various parameters and trying to optimize them, I came out with an antenna which presents an impedance of 450 Ohms, with low reactan...

Re: LoG antenna trick

I have heard great things about LOG antennas, but I can't use one here because my entire usable backyard is full of radials for my sloping wire antenna to work against. On the upside the sloping wire works really well! Well, you may always put together a LoG and use it away from home :D all in all ...

Re: LoG antenna trick

Edit: OMG, there is so much to learn from this! :) IIRC some post(s) in some discussion somewhere suggested that minimally elevating the wire would be advantageous. According to the simulation, only a few centimeters dramatically decrease the influence of the ground and turn the LoG into a "cl...

Re: LoG antenna trick

Ollie, a bit of warning here; NEC modeling may be addictive and you may start modeling an antenna and adding to the model wireframe models for buildings, trees and so on  Seriously, as you correctly pointed out, the program allows to SIMULATE antennas, and while the results will change in real ...

Re: LoG antenna trick

Forgot, if someone is interested in antenna modeling using NEC, or wants to play with the free 4NEC2 modeling program, here's a NEC model for the LoG antenna CM --------------------------------------------- CM File: LoG.nec CM Loop on Ground - http://www.kk5jy.net/LoG/ CM antenna length changed usin...

Re: The cardioid loop

Just had an idea; what about transforming one of those "chinese loop antennas" like the MLA-30, into a cardioid loop ? Mine is down the basement, so it will take some time to put it back on duty, but if someone here had an MLA at hand, I think it may be an interesting experiment; it would ...

NICE

which kind of loop is the one hanging on the wall ?

also (I'm curious) which antenna is connected to that coax going out, through the window frame ?

Re: LoG antenna trick

Here's a video I shot last year using the passive 20m LoG antenna before I shot the pics above: [...] That's 16,000km away from my secret LOG testing ground, on a day with no particularly elevated condx. The link seems to be working, and the video shows what an antenna laying on ground can do; then...
