So I want to connect my horizontal room loop to an MFJ 1045C
I want to connect this -- https://swling.com/blog/2021/06/jock-designs-a-horizontal-room-loop-to-cope-with-reception-issues/ -- to an MFJ 1045C active preselector, which requires coax input and does not accept a wire antenna directly. So I need a balun?? -- maybe this? https://www.amazon.com/LDG-RBA...

Re: Perhaps goofy antenna idea
Andrew,
Another goofy question: would linear loading work with an end-fed wire?

13dka,
Wow, big difference! Very helpful.
This forum is a great place to learn stuff, and -- thanks to my Scottish thrift genes -- I'm an enthusiast of low-cost experimentation.

Re: Perhaps goofy antenna idea
Once again, the bulb glows a little brighter . . . (I hope).
Thanks!

Re: Perhaps goofy antenna idea
Andrew,
Okay, but since this a receive-only antenna, do I care about the radiation angle?

Re: Perhaps goofy antenna idea
Andrew,
That looks great! Thanks for the hard work.
I presume the coax to the antenna counts as the vertical part of the T?

Re: Perhaps goofy antenna idea
Andrew,
Thanks again!
A couple of additional questions:
- I was thinking of using phone line wire, which has four conductors. Do I presume correctly that there is no harm in leaving one conductor unused?
- Any verticals that you could recommend?

Re: Perhaps goofy antenna idea
Andrew, Thanks for the info. A couple of questions: 1. What would be the downside of feeding the signal from the dipole to an MFJ 1045C (which I already own), where I could control the level of amplification, instead of the LNA at the balun? 2. I was thinking of using phone wire, which has four insu...

Perhaps goofy antenna idea
On the Radio Reference forum, I asked a question about scanner antennas, one of the guys there kept nudging me to try the off-center-fed dipole -- https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Homebrewed_Off-Center_Fed_Dipole -- and, with the help of a ham friend, I built one, and it works very well for...
