Re: The SULA antenna
Congrats! A few notes though: 1. I have no hard data points what it really does but a metal support is not recommendable as it will very likely mess with the antenna's performance in some way or other. Or is that a wood pole (hard to see on the pic)? 2. The SULA is lacking a lot of sensitivity witho...

Re: The Belka (-DSP/-DX/-v3) appreciation thread
Today I used the currently (for a change) calm(-ish) ionospheric conditions for a very early walk in order to try catching some TA DX. Chances are rather slim now merely 3 weeks to the summer solstice, because there's very little darkness between TX and RX, leaving only a very short time window for ...

Re: Oddity on WWV's 10MHz frequency June 30, 2022 05:10Z
Yes, it's English but alas very much drowned out by the stronger program and unintelligible. Are you sure this is Radio Vatican? Are they having a different interval music for sign-off? It's very similar, even in the same key as it seems but it lacks the glockenspiel/vibraphone/xylophone/dingdong le...

Here's the minute before the stations disappeared (with the rapid fadeout after the second minute beep), and the sign off music I can't seem to identify (I'm not so much of a BCL I'm afraid and YouTube has only historic interval signals): https://www.dropbox.com/s/n6e0fvrilz1guqt/10MHz_Anomaly_June3...

Oddity on WWV's 10MHz frequency June 30, 2022 05:10Z
Going through last year's recordings I found this odd appearance of what sounds like 2 stations on top of WWV 10 MHz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWKt3A1murg As you can see on the video, I frantically tried to make sure that this is not some odd malfunction of my IC-705. I have an audio recordin...

Re: Shortwave Listening
If you think about it a for a while, it isn't a stupid question at all. First off, you didn't listen to it on a radio, you streamed it off a website and that is by all vague definitions not shortwave listening, or broadcast listening (as in in "SWL" and "BCL"). OTOH you were list...

Re: Balun for a end fed random wire?
A balun is for connecting bal anced antennas to an un balanced feedline. For an end-fed wire you'd want an unun . It won't change the general characteristics of random wires, what you may or may not gain from it in reception (which depends entirely on your individual location/situation) is maybe a l...

Re: The SULA antenna
Dug out another clip - this one is kind of special, not only because 21:30 local is kind of late for 15m and the station being 13,300km away on the Falkland Islands yet giving me a very solid signal on the SULA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi8xghVcDU4 That's Bob (VP8LP), the guy who informed BBC...

Re: The SULA antenna
Welcome to the forum! Well, the "null" isn't quite as deep on 10m as it is on the lower bands but it still does what it's supposed to do. On upper end of HF it has the least losses (for the shortwave band that is, it starts getting gain when you go higher) and generally performs very well ...

Re: Italy is back on MW!
That's quite a lot! Next to make room: TalkSports leaves a couple of frequencies (not overly sad about that one personally).
