Re: GE Model 7-2990A
Yes. You can search online and get it that way too. I paid 8 bucks and bought 2 of them in case I ruined one. Mine came via amazon so I probably overpaid. If you use a small screwdriver you can spread the old gear apart and it will slide up the shaft easily. Underneath it the shaft is knurled so the...

GE Model 7-2990A
This radio is the first SW radio I ever bought that had a digital display. I bought it new in the 80's. I found SW performance good but very fiddly for SSB. FM and AM BCB were outstanding! I have searched in vain for something small that equals it's AM performance. But what I wanted to share here is...

Re: ARRL Field Day this weekend!
I played a bit, mostly on 75m SSB. I worked SD in very heavy static so that was fun.

Re: A simple preamp and preselector
My point was to substitute a tuned loop for the input preselector. I built a 4 band preselector for 100kc to 30 mhz for use with an old sw radio that had poor image rejection performance. I used an fet to act as a small amount of gain but mostly as a high impedance load for the LC network and to dri...

Re: 10-meter rig recommendation
I second the magnetic loop suggestion. I worked a guy on SSB one day on 60 meters
using a loop inside of his HOA restricted condo. He was using 50 watts and was s7 or so.
Much better than nothing and also portable so you can try it inside and on the balcony.

Re: A simple preamp and preselector
Thanks for posting this. I am going to try it without the varactor and use a single turn loop
instead of the network and see what kind of silly active loop I come up with. I will tune with a
variable capacitor across the loop.
I will let you know how it works!

Re: 10-meter rig recommendation
I had wanted a new 10m rig for use in the car and I ordered an import rig. It was horrible. I only throw one in the car if I go up on the blue ridge parkway, But the import was so bad I returned it. I use an Icom 7200 for that now with a Wilson 5000 magnet mount tuned for lowest SWR on 28.400. I kee...

Re: selecting a new receiver
Maximum bang for the buck buy an SDR. For HF and LF use I own the Airspy HF+ Discovery and the SDRPLAY RSPDX. Both are excellent on HF with the Airspy being better for NDB beacon band work below the broadcast band. I use SDR Console to control both and typically use the RSPDX @ LIF showing a 2mhz wi...
