Re: Another directional RX loop
anyway, I'm really interested in knowing how well the "squished SULA" nulls out stations so, if possible, rotating it to "null out" a station and reporting results will be really useful and interesting That is exactly what I also have been thinking. But right now I'm recovering ...

Re: Another directional RX loop
If you can/want, it will be interesting to see a video comparing that antenna with the stock one (or with some other antenna) Right now I am in Trondheim, but I am planning to do just that when I return home at the end of this month. Forgot to say that I made the SULA made with some break line had ...

Re: Another directional RX loop
Andrew, I decided to try your antenna idea, and made it pinned to the inside wall up in the loft, using your values for wires resistor and balun, and using a cheap RF amplifier I bought from Banggood: https://www.banggood.com/Signal-Amplifier-100k-6GHz-Full-Band-Low-Noise-9037BAT-LNA-RF-Amplifier-Hi...

Re: Another directional RX loop
Thats a great idea!
Thanks for sharing. This version should be much easier to build for beginners than the SULA.
And a suitable balun and preamp can be found at very low cost on the web.

Re: Balcony antenna
Forty years ago I lived for a year in a small flat on the third floor of a house with restrictions on antennas etc. So I made a similar loop antenna using 3mm copper wire. The circumference was about 9 meters, and I used a resistor of 1 kOhm. Antenna could not be seen from the ground unless you knew...

Re: Balun One Nine: cutting R1
It is done to obtain galvanic isolation between the antenna and radio.

I just had an eye opening experience. When I commented on 13dka ' recording, I was sitting in a hotel room in Trondheim using my laptop. Think I have to purchase some kind of bluetooth earbuds to get proper audio quality. WhenI listened to his recording again, after returning home tonight, I immedia...

I do no recognise the languageof the announser, but the music in the background is the interval signal of Vatican Radio. I have no idea how this could happen though, so you have probably recorded a once in a lifetime happening.

Re: Balun for a end fed random wire?
Paul, When I moved to my present home I had excactly the same problems. After a lot of trial and error whithout any improvements in the noise situation, one of the oldtimers recommended a "Common Mode Choke". He even built it for me. That got rid of almost all the noise, and still works fi...
