Re: The cardioid loop

That's a pretty interesting design, thanks for the heads up! I wonder if and how this principle could be applied to big loops (because I find SMLs tend to lack a lot above 10 MHz)? well, the NEC model (which I used for tests) was related to the bigger loop, optimized for 160m and down, and that ver...

Re: The cardioid loop

Ok, being curious decided to download the NEC model file from the CCW page and ran it, found that the impedance of the antenna in the range between 1KHz and 10MHz varies between 600Ohm and 1KOhm, so I ran a sweep setting the feeder impedance to 800Ohm that is feeding the antenna through a 16:1 BalUn...

The cardioid loop

Here's an interesting antenna design from "Cross Country Wireless" http://www.crosscountrywireless.net/cardioid_loop_antenna.htm while I didn't (yet) build/test it, the idea is quite interesting and it's basically the same which was used in a past for radiogoniometers, in that case they us...

Re: selecting a new receiver

If you're looking for a receiver, how about an SDRplay RSPdx? IMO, in terms of value for money, you can't get much better. An SDR such as this would leave lots of monetary wiggle room to get a decent antenna. Well, a (GOOD!) SDR unit may fit the bill, sure, but then there will be a learning curve w...

Re: selecting a new receiver

if the JRC is serving you well... why replace it ?

as for the antenna, if you'll have a bit of garden, check this one

Re: What is the best indoor antenna for SWLing?

an L shaped support hanging outside a window and supporting a loop may be viable, I think, won't it? We're not allowed to hang anything outside. And with my luck, if I tried, it would fall 50 floors to street level and decapitate someone. ok... but you can still use the old "tape loop&qu...

Re: What is the best indoor antenna for SWLing?

I live in a highrise Faraday cage and my unit doesn't have a balcony, so SWLing always is a challenge. I've been using The Square, an antenna sold by peanutpaster , for about a year. I prop the antenna against a window and clip its wire to my Eton's whip. Reception is improved significantly. an L s...

Re: GE Superadio III awful with headphones

According to this thread https://antiqueradios.com/forums//viewtopic.php?f=4&t=56282&start=0 this could be a general problem with them. Alas there is no remedy listed, also not on this site with modifications: http://earmark.net/gesr/sr3.htm High impedance headphones could mitigate the prob...

Re: Antenna clip cable

Like this one that comes with the Sangean reel antenna. A cable with an alligator clip will work, certainly, but this purpose-built cable is nicer, I'd say. Oh, a cable with alligator clips may not be "nice", but it will work, not sure if there are cables with a "nice clip" like...

Re: Antenna clip cable

If I understand the question correctly, this is what you want: No, I want just the cable that sits between the radio's whip antenna and the reel antenna. Fine, so what's wrong with that cable which was suggested and which had alligator clips on one side and a plug on the other side ? If that isn't ...
