Re: The small SWL beam (1...30 MHz)
As a note, the difference between a 530 Ohm or a 540 Ohm load resistor is negligible, so 2x270 Ohm resistors in series will just fit I figured. I'll have to use 2x 1kOhm parallel -> 2x 47Ohms parallel for 523 Ohms (the 525pc resistor box doesn't come with 270 Ohms*). With some good layered shrink t...

Re: The small SWL beam (1...30 MHz)
Ok, I think we may stick with "SDL" (Small Directional Loop) or "SDRL" (R for Receiving) I suggest SLOB then, you know it really helps if the acronym is a word (took me 2 years until I could memorize "NCPL" and 10 for "G5RV/HB9CV/W3DZZ"), or the antenna has a...

Re: The small SWL beam (1...30 MHz)
Hmm... I have no experience with naming antennas other than giving mine the "crap" prefix, craploop, crap-pole...because I initially thought they are cheap and simple so they must be crap  Crapbeam sounds not very attractive. The Greyhat SLB (Small Loop Beam) Small Unidirectional ...

Re: The small SWL beam (1...30 MHz)
Yes, played with the mode (thanks!) and this looks incredible. The F/B ratio seems to be whopping 20dB minimum above 10 MHz, can also be 30dB elsewhere, of course we're talking losses and not gain here but still, this seems too good to be true - a 3-ele Yagi has typically 13dB or something. It still...

Re: The small SWL beam (1...30 MHz)
A box with 525 resistors is on its way to me (plus another one with 500 capacitors because I needed one of those too). :D Going to source 2.5mm wire tomorrow and I already have 1m plastic cable channel profiles to craft a cross-shaped support from (76cm sides is an extra challenge for 1m long profil...

Re: The small SWL beam (1...30 MHz)
Thanks! Truth is... that due to some (hopefully minor) health issues I won't be able to build the loop anytime soon (probably next fall) so at this point I just simulated the antenna using NEC, so... :( I hope this is nothing serious and that you'll get better soon! I'm currently running this for hi...

Re: The small SWL beam (1...30 MHz)
Hi Andrew, This is super exiting! I meant to comment on your cardioid loop thread but my reply would've created a new page and pushed your great post to the previous one. What I meant to comment on that thread is that the "cardioid loop" concept looks particularly promising because it coul...

Re: The Belka DSP/DX appreciation thread
This Sunday afternoon I was at the dike again with just with the Belka. Condx were just getting odd again (SFI=100, A=19, K=1) and there wasn't a lot of DX to hear. I still wanted to check the IBP beacon reception with the whip anyway (that didn't really work well last time), so I did just that. I d...

Re: ARRL Field Day this weekend!
I observed that from my side of the pond last year, with below average condx but still enjoyable, the bands were packed with people (almost exclusively from the Americas) having a field day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zni2OesS9Ng Last night I went to my listening post at the dike hoping that th...
