Improving the MLA-30

Here are some suggestions, in case you decided to buy it, that is :) First step, improve the loop; either use some copper pipe or alumium strip to make a wider and BIGGER loop (easy) Second step; match the impedance, the preamp has an impedance ranging from 1.5K down to 450Ohm, now ler's find a bala...

Re: GE Superadio III awful with headphones

in such a case http://www.qrp.gr/tmaf/ :D [edit] the original filter along with infos about its working can be found here http://www.qrp.gr/tmaf/The_Magical_Audio_Filter.pdf it's basically a double audio filter implementing both a passband and a notch, the original one was mostly aimed at CW, but wi...

QRM eliminator

let' s start from an example of the kind of unit I'm referring to https://www.amazon.com/Eliminator-X-Phase-Bands-Aluminum-Signal/dp/B09B37KQ12 but there are several others using the same approach, a connection to our antenna and a connection to a so-callled "aux antenna", "noise ante...

Re: The SULA antenna

I just might try it in a few weeks since better weather isn't too far away. Good tip about making sure the test is on more than one band. I wouldn't think it would be of much use at LF, but MF through 30 mhz would definitely be in order. I have better antennas for vhf and higher. rayb Well, Ray, th...

Re: The SULA antenna

Very good Andrew. Well, it was just an idea I had that seemed to have a possiblility of working. That's how we advance the state of the art... come up with an idea and test it. Thanks for your reply. Your work saves someone from spending time and physical effort that won't produce the desired resul...

Re: The SULA antenna

Hello, I just found this forum, as well as the info on the Sula antenna. Looking over the four pages of info on this post, it seems to be a very good "all around" antenna for swl'ing, as well as it having the benefit of only one null instead of the usual loop dual null. Ok, I'm going to b...

Re: The SULA antenna

just a short note about how to route the coax feeding the SULA; the image below shows the effect of routing the coax outside the SULA or inside it (through the center), as you can easily see, routing the coax toward the center (second image from top) heavily changes the pattern, the backside "n...

Re: Strange afternoon MW DX flare (5,500 and 7,500km!)

I obviously like it to bits! :) No, seriously, it's not having any severe highpass/reduced sensitivity issues typical for ham transceivers on MW/LW and it has all the nice tools one would want in a MW DX radio (particularly passband tuning and notch filter), being an SDR and showing me faint carrie...
